Car insurance is something almost every driver buys and few understand. We publish independent, plain-English education so you can understand your policy and judge an insurer for yourself.
What we do
We publish guides to car insurance coverage, judging insurers and comparing quotes, a step-by-step insurer check, a glossary, the Policy Review checklist and a free Quote Comparison Worksheet. We send The Fine Print to people who sign up for it, and we're preparing the Smart Insurance Shopper course.
What we are not
- We are not an insurance company, agent, broker or consultant, and we don't sell, quote or bind insurance.
- We don't rate or recommend specific insurers, and we don't accept commissions, referral fees or advertising from insurers.
- We don't collect information for quotes and never share your details with insurers, agents or lead generators.
Where our information comes from
State insurance departments, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the FTC and policy documents. Rules vary by state; when in doubt, your state insurance department is the authority.
