How to read your declarations page
The one-page summary of your policy, line by line.
Your declarations page ("dec page") is the summary at the front of your policy. It's the fastest way to see what you actually have, and what you'll need when comparing quotes.
What it shows
- Policy number and policy period
- Named insureds and listed drivers
- Each vehicle, with its VIN
- Each coverage, its limit and deductible, and the premium for each
- Discounts applied
- Lienholders or lessors on financed or leased cars
- Endorsements that change the standard policy
Check it every renewal
- Are all drivers in the household listed correctly?
- Are the vehicles and VINs right, and is anything sold still on it?
- Are your limits what you expect?
- Are discounts you qualify for applied?
- Has the premium changed, and do you know why?
